Musicans You Should Know- Sigur Ros

With hauntingly beautiful songs which are relaxing and amazing. Sigur Ros, was brought to my attention years ago my lovely friend Alex; we often swap musicians each other finds. You may have heard some Sigur Ros whether you noticed or not; they are commonly used in movies. Sigur Ros is an Icelandic Band that have songs sung in either Vonlenska/Hopelandic and or Icelandic .

“Vonlenska is the non-literal language that forms the unintelligible lyrics sung by the band on some songs,in particular by Jonsi. It is also commonly known by the English translation of its name, Hopelandic. It takes its name from “Von”, a song on Sigur Rós’s debut album Von where it was first used. However, not all Sigur Rós songs are in Hopelandic; many are sung in Icelandic.Vonlenska has no fixed syntax and differs from constructed languages that can be used for communication. It focuses entirely on the sounds of language; lacking grammar, meaning, and even distinct words. Instead, it consists of emotive no lexical vocables and phonemes; in effect, Vonlenska uses the melodic and rhythmic elements of singing without the conceptual content of language.”

I find the music to be relaxing ‘Untitled 8’ sung in Hopelandic and uplifting like ‘Hoppipolla’ sung in Icelandic.  To haunting like the song ‘Ny Batteri’ sung in Icelandic which can bring one to tears.  I am very open to different music in different languages. I measure music by if it touches my soul and Sigur Ros music does just that.  I encourage you to be adventurous with your music and listen to a few songs!
They always have projects going on check out their sites. The only thing I regret I haven’t gotten to see them live just yet!

Happy Music Listening
